Educational Information

The following information briefly explains some of the processes and how non-ferrous castings are made at MBP Australia.

Baghouses control the emissions from the melting, pouring and mould manufacture.  They are “industrial sized vacuum cleaners”, except the particulate is collected on the outside of the bags rather than the inside, as with domestic vacuum cleaner.

Core Making

Cores form the inside shape of a casting. They are made from resin coated sand, which under heat application within the hot core box, cures the phenolic resins, forming a hard shell like core.  If it were not for the core, the casting would be solid, thus requiring an impractical amount of machining and wastage.
